We are very pleased to have a couple of new tapes available for you all to stream and download today. There’s a ton of new music coming your way from TAHRC before the end of the year, so let’s get into the details on these two fresh releases and get the month started off correctly.
D / D / J /G brings us another live performance with their new ‘NOCTU FIT TYMPANIS ET SISTRIS‘ cassette. Recorded live at the Tomb of Toons (a local DIY house venue that held their final shows during this past summer) in May of this year, the cassette wanders from contemplative and restive tones to more caustic and drum heavy revelations. The entire performance was captured on a Zoom H Series recorder, which brings the live performance aspects of the recording to the front (many of the past D / D / J / G recordings were done using cellphone apps or analog recorders). It’s a sharp contrast from last year’s ‘VIBES AT BAIKAL LAKE‘, and I hope that you find it a refreshing bridge into what comes next. INFORMATION WELFARE is the solo work of Jackson Graham (the J / G from above), and it’s as fascinatingly in-flux as Graham is as a musician. Over the past few years, Graham has transitioned his attention as a musician to the academic world (he formerly was a member of TAHRC thrash masters HOSMER, CAP’N JAZZ-esque noodlers CHAUFFEURS, and also played drums in LOW ORIOLE, one of the best math-punk bands to ever perform), and as he is now approaching the end of his studies in percussion at WSU, he’s beginning to create a lot of new and different music. The original IW cassette, LIVE AT R COFFEEHOUSE, was a droning and energetic synth-and-drum loop enterprise, equal parts manic and tailored beats and warping, pulsating synth melodies. ENCHANTILLONS has literally none of those soundscapes at play. IW trades out experimental punk tropes for more composed and sparse landscapes on this new cassette, creating tracks that have as much to do with sound poetry and field recording as they do with performance and traditional punk experimentation. You might look to musicians like SEAN MCCANN (who Graham recently COLLABORATED with on a forthcoming LP via McCann’s RECITAL label) or even dub punk duo BLUES CONTROL‘s collaborative records for an idea of the conversation that ENCHANTILLONS is engaged in, or you might just jam it and form your own opinions. It’s something new from a project that promises to provide more new directions in the future. You can purchase a copy of the cassette by heading to our ONLINE CATALOG, or you can visit the IW BANDCAMP page to download the cassette. Stream the entire cassette below, headphones recommended:
