Really excited for this one: we’ve got brand new music from Kansas noise visionary ENDLESS CHASM. We were fortunate to release a cassette for ENDLESS CHASM back in December of 2015, and it was almost wall-to-wall harsh noise; swirling and churning hisses and atmospheres that sounded like getting trapped under a highway bypass during a tornado. This new ENDLESS CHASM offering is a complete turn of the prism; Zach Lawrence performs as much silence here as “noise,” and the space gives his music another life. There are textures of EINSTURZENDE NEUBATEN, some of the lurching sea sickness you’d find with MERZBOW, and some more electronic drones like a turned-down STEVE HAUSCHILDT album. Somehow, this cassette maintains the same taut and harrowing feeling without the cacophony. The artwork for the release, also by ENDLESS CHASM, does a great job of capturing the dynamics.
If you’re a fan of this music, I highly recommend that you try to catch ENDLESS CHASM live – the array of instrumentation is always phenomenal, and it gives some great context to what you get to hear in this recording. As usual, I don’t expect ya’ll to take my word for it – DWELLER ON THE THRESHOLD cassettes are available via preorder HERE, and you can head over to BANDCAMP to download it. Preordered cassettes will begin shipping out during the week of July 28th. Stream both tracks below:
