Wichita’s excellent and high-energy world punks BELLAFONTE called it quits less than a year ago, but they’re finally getting around to releasing their last record on cassette today! PRIME MERIDIAN is a collection of material that was recorded back in 2013 at Ping Pong Studios by Eric Harrison (DEATHBLACK FLOWERS), and it’s finally seeing the light of day, in conjunction with a live performance from BELLAFONTE on August 19th at the newly relocated DISTRICT MARKETPLACE. BELLAFONTE is without a doubt the most diverse band we’ve had the pleasure of releasing music for, drawing together a huge collection of members and collaborators over the life of the band, and drawing from an equally large cross section of influences. Frank Bravo (FAIRNESS, DREAMVERB) and Josue Estrada (LEWELHEDS) are both people who have showed up on other TAHRC releases, and are joined on this recording by members Zac Palmquist, Dane Alexander, Eric Selzer and Christy Oeur. if you’re local, you can catch them performing with many of the other members and collaborators at the REUNION SHOW they have planned for this release, which again, is August 19th. Their music is hard to describe, oscillating from funk and soul influences, to some more punk and indie pop sensibilities, and touches on jazz, big band and world music themes in tandem. I’m certain that desciption is inadequate, but if you’ve ever heard them or seen them perform, you know my predicament – they were a collective of different musicians, performing music that was regularly in flux from one focus to another.
